ALIQUAL RECENSITO DA PAOLA PALEARI SU YET MAGAZINE/ALIQUAL REVIEWED BY PAOLA PALEARI ON YET MAGAZINE

Aliqual is a cartesian book. It is as solid and basic as the rectangular coordinates can be, and it seems to determine the position of its inner elements as if on a geometrical manifold…

…Aliqual is a visual analysis of a disastrous event and its unresolved consequences, realized through a precise language that manages to be contemporary, functional and personal at the same time. On top of that, Aliqual is also a good example of a fortunate encounter between photography and its editing and design (curated by 3/3, a Rome-based studio for photography projects) and a demonstration that a photobook is something more – or better said, something else – than the presentation of a photographic project on pages.

ALIQUAL RECENSITO DA ADAM BELL SU PHOTOEYE BLOG/ALIQUAL REWIEVED BY ADAM BELL ON PHOTOEYE BLOG

Photography has always gravitated to junk, dust and detritus, but Mastrorillo seems to be aiming for something more than a simplistic or romantic exploration of ruin and decay. There are a dozen terrible books to be made in the ruined rooms and landscape of L’Aquila. While Mastrorillo was drawn to the possibility offered by a city abandoned and partially destroyed, he pictures its ruins to a different effect. Purposely repetitive, narrow and myopic, he keeps looking at stuff until it falls apart and begins to come together again in new form. If the earthquake tore apart the familiar order, by staring long and hard, and repeating things, Mastrorillo hopes to restore order.

DIVERGENT VISIONS WORKSHOP c/o ISOLAB VENEZIA/DIVERGENT VISIONS WORKSHOP AT ISOLAB VENICE

wsmmisolab

In the “Society of the Image”, hypervision make us blind, insensitive, comply even when

we are not. The goal of this workshop is to learn how to look in a different way, far from

trends and the caption of the reality. A Vision able to go in deep, through the evocation, the

imagination and the searching.

The study of several photo projects and artists, the giving of assignments, the selection of

contents and the development of the authorship will be the base of the construction of a

real alternative way of looking.

The conceptualization more than the expressive form (aesthetics and technique) will be

privileged (they are considered important but not fundamental).

Images produced will be analyzed, “ vivisected “, to investigate the instincts of everyone

and become aware of the different reading levels and interaction of the reality.

Participants will learn to become more intimate with the places and people, understanding

how “ the art of observing “ can become an action full of joy and intensity, an emotional

vehicle. Moreover a particular attention will be dedicated to the editing, trying to identify

which may be the elements that, in a photo sequence, can help to make a story more

interesting and communicative .

profondità attraverso l’evocazione, l’immaginazione e l’indagine.

propria alternativa nello sguardo.
